Coaching Young People
"Self-belief is built when we make decisions, take successful actions and recognise our full responsibility for both".
For fifteen years Fred competed for Great Britain and England at the highest level in the world of athletics as a Long Jumper, accumulating over 30 international representations during that time. This included competing at the European, Commonwealth and World Championships in addition to representing Cameroon at the 1988 Olympic Games (Seoul Korea).
His greatest achievements were winning the World Cup for Great Britain in 1994 and securing a silver medal for England at the Commonwealth Games in 1986. He also captained an England team in 1995.
He is particularly admired for building a successful IT career throughout that time (working with companies such as RBS, HSBC, Reuters, AOL, Citibank, Microsoft, State Street Bank to name a few), whilst maintaining the discipline and motivation to compete at the highest levels of sport.
Fred is one of those unique people who have achieved both individually and as part of a team, and understands the dynamics of becoming a champion in sports and in life.
“Young people face many opportunities and challenges and sometimes struggle to make sense of conflicting messages from families, peers, the media and society”.
“We can help our young people identify and/or enhance their unique gifts and talents; and education, coaching, mentoring when appropriate are important elements of that process.”
For best results we must promote self awareness, ownership and responsibility.
Fred’s ability to communicate with and motivate young people is enhanced by his humble beginnings and background, having been brought up in a very challenging environment.
By sharing his close understanding of the importance of education and self-development, with his personal experiences both on and off the track, he has consistently inspired, motivated and helped young people achieve their goals.

“Many thanks for being a guest speaker at our Annual Youth Service Conference. It was particularly helpful to see how you have overcome your challenges and moved forward in so many ways, and the feedback from our people was very positive”.
